11/10 for unbeaten Reds to triumph

Liverpool have renewed hope of a top-four finish

Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Monday night hoping to extend their impressive unbeaten record at home. The Reds have not been beaten at Anfield in any competition since May last year, although they have drawn seven of their 11 home league games this season.

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is available after an eight-match ban and captain Steven Gerrard should return having been rested for the 3-0 win over Wolves in midweek. Long-term absentee Lucas Leiva remains out through injury.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Rafael van der Vaart, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe are all doubts for the visitors while Tom Huddlestone, William Gallas and Jermaine Jenas are definitely out. New signing Louis Saha may make his debut.

Given that both Arsenal and Chelsea have dropped points in recent games, Liverpool have renewed hope of a top-four finish and a win on Monday would give the club a huge boost. Spurs, on the other hand, are currently six points adrift of Manchester United and a further two behind Manchester City at the top of the table and Harry Redknapp will be keen to keep an unprecedented first league title since 1961 within his sights.

Last year’s 2-0 win was the first time Spurs had beaten Liverpool at Anfield in 17 attempts and with the potential absence of some key players, a repeat of that result is a big ask. Liverpool’s defence has been solid all season and only league-leaders Manchester City have conceded fewer. The Reds have found their shooting boots in recent weeks, scoring 20 goals in the last nine games in all competitions and the return of Suarez will further bolster Kenny Dalglish’s options in attack.

Since their their 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on the opening weekend, Spurs have found the net in every league game this season. Ladbrokes offer 5/6 for both teams to score at Anfield. The Reds have struggled of late against some of the so-called weaker teams in the league but they consistently up their game against the teams at the top of the table They are available at odds of 11/10 for a win that would take them to within two points of the top four.
