12/5 for Cats to force replay

Sunderland will be hoping to capitalise on Arsenal's defensive frailties

Sunderland host Arsenal at the Stadium of Light on Saturday with a place in the FA Cup Quarter-Final Draw up for grabs.

Arsenal will be without Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny is a doubt. Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson also look set to miss out.

Since Arsenal came out on top when the two sides met in the league last week, Sunderland have had seven days of rest to prepare. Martin O’Neill may therefore decide to name an unchanged side.

Arsenal, on the other hand, endured a demoralising trip to Milan in midweek, only to return from the San Siro with a four-goal deficit at the midway point of their last-16 Champions League tie with AC Milan.

Sunderland will be hoping to capitalise on Arsenal’s defensive frailties and the in-form Stephane Sessegnon will be crucial to the home side’s chances of success. However, following their midweek drubbing in Europe, Arsenal will now regard the Cup as their best, if not only, chance of silverware this season and Coral offer 6/1 for Arsene Wenger’s men to end their seven-year wait for a trophy with an FA Cup triumph in May.

In this year’s Premier League campaign, only Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic have conceded more than the Gunners away from home but Robin Van Persie is only nine goals short of Sunderland’s goal tally all season. With Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain assisting in the forward positions, neither side looks likely to keep a clean sheet. Several bookmakers offer 4/6 for both teams to score.

Sunderland are one of the form teams in domestic football and will provide a substantial test for the Gunners. Their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend was only their second in twelve games in all competitions and that came courtesy of a last-minute winner from the now-departed Thierry Henry. Sky Bet’s odds of 12/5 look good for the Black Cats to force a replay. Ladbrokes offer 6/1 for a 1-1 draw.
