16/1 for all Manchester final

Mancini has already made his intentions towards the competition clear

Both Manchester clubs crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night as United lost to Basel and Villarreal could do City no favours in Spain.

The results meant that both will now line-up in the Europa League in the New Year and bookmaker Sky Bet are offering odds of 16/1 that the two rivals meet in the final of the competition.

Roberto Mancini has already made his intentions towards the competition clear and sees the Europa League as a good opportunity to bring some more silverware to the Etihad Stadium.

“I think that for Manchester City, [the Europa League] is an important trophy, because we need to win more trophies if possible,” said the Italian.

“If we can go to the final then I think for Manchester City it will be good. The Europa League is harder because we play Thursday and won't have a lot of time to recover for the games. But this will be the only difference.”

City are now the 5/1 favourites for the Europa League with bookmaker Bet365.

United, however, were not so upbeat about the possibility of playing in the continent’s secondary competition.

“That is our penalty for not qualifying tonight,” said Ferguson after the game.

“It's a competition I've never been in with United. It means a lot of Sunday games.”

The Red Devils are quoted at 13/2 by Bet365, perhaps due in large part to Ferguson’s expected disdain towards the competition in terms of team selection and intensity.

The draw for the knockout stages of the competition will take place on December 16 with Round of 32 ties being played on February 16 & 23.
