2022 World Cup odds-on to be played outside summer

Despite all the protestations from leagues around the world over the hosting of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, it is still odds-on that the tournament will take place in the Middle Eastern country and not in the traditional months of June and July.

Paddy Power are now offering odds of 1/4 that Qatar will indeed get to host the tournament they were promised by Fifa with a dramatic U-turn and another country to take over available at 5/2.

What will be worrying players, fans and administrators all over the world though is that it looks set to be moved away from the unbearable heat of the Qatari summer to the intensely awkward situation of a winter tournament that would disrupt the vast majority of major leagues around the world.

Paddy Power suggest that it is 5/4 to be held in June and July of 2022 whilst any other date in the calendar year is at 4/7.

As people involved in football around the globe become increasingly frustrated with Fifa’s plans for the 2022 event, the pantomime villain of the piece Sepp Blatter further infuriated the watching world as he admitted: "It may well be that we made a mistake at the time," in awarding the competition to Qatar.
