21/20 for Black Cats delight

The visitors are available at a best-priced 21/20 to win in 90 minutes

Middlesbrough host local rivals Sunderland in the FA Cup Fourth Round replay at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night, with a home tie against Arsenal awaiting the winners when the Fifth Round gets underway. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light last month with Fraizer Campbell scoring the equaliser after Barry Robson gave Boro the lead.

Tony Mowbray will have former Sunderland midfielder Julio Arca available after suspension but Faris Haroun, Barry Robson and top scorer Marvin Emnes face late fitness tests. Scott McDonald is definitely out for the Teessiders with a knee injury that may keep him out of action for up to 12 weeks.

Wes Brown, Nicklas Bendtner, David Vaughan, Titus Bramble, Matt Kilgallon, Craig Gordon and captain Lee Cattermole are all missing through injury. New signings Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos were not registered in time to be available for selection.

Both sides have struggled with consistency throughout the season but it is the Premiership side that will approach the game with momentum. The Black Cats’ only defeats in twelve games under Martin O’Neill have been away to title-hopefuls Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. In contrast, Shrewsbury Town are the only side to have suffered defeat at the hands of Boro since Boxing Day. The visitors are available at a best-priced 21/20 to win in 90 minutes against their north-east rivals and 4/7 to qualify for the next round by any means.

Only four Championship teams have scored fewer than Middlesbrough on home soil and, similarly, only two have conceded fewer. Sunderland have the third-best defensive record in the Premier League this season and therefore a goal fest seems unlikely. Stan James offer odds of 3/4 that fewer than 2.5 goals will be scored on Wednesday night.
