25/1 that Jones sees red in FA Cup semi

Jones saved a penalty with his first touch on his Premier League debut for Liverpool

Bookmaker Coral are offering odds of 25/1 that Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones is sent off in this Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Everton at Wembley.

The Reds’ first-choice stopper Pepe Reina was sent off in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle a fortnight ago while second-choice goalkeeper Alexander Doni was given his marching orders in the 3-2 victory over Blackburn on Tuesday. Both ‘keeper’s will now miss the FA Cup semi-final with Everton due to suspension meaning Brad Jones is expected to deputise.

“In a FA cup semi final clash, against Everton, there are sure to be fireworks and there is every chance that Liverpool will have to call on their fourth choice keeper,” said James Dirs of Coral.

Liverpool have today recalled 21-year-old Hungarian ‘keeper Peter Gulasci from his loan spell with Hull in order to provide cover for Jones.

Having replaced Doni between the sticks at Ewood Park Jones saved a penalty with his first touch on his Premier League debut for Liverpool. The Australian international will now make only his fourth start for the club in the FA Cup semi-final against Merseyside rivals Everton this weekend.

“It hasn't sunk in yet, it's been a bit of a shock - not something I was expecting," said the 30-year-old. "Now it's a case of getting focused and ready.”

“It's a big game at the weekend and we just have to be prepared.”
