3/1 for AVB to leave within month

Villas-Boas was required to defend his team selection

Bookmaker William Hill offer odds of just 3/1 that Andre Villas-Boas will have left Chelsea Football Club by the time the club face Napoli in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The Blues’ dismal run of form extended to five games without a win as a disorganised defensive display saw Napoli run out 3-1 winners in Naples on Tuesday evening. After the match Villas-Boas was required to defend his team selection having left Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Michael Essien on the bench for the game.

“You can have your opinion but it was based on what was the best team in my thoughts,” said the 34-year-old.

“I had a conversation with Ashley and Frank. Through the players that they are and the players with the experience they have, they felt they could have helped the team. That's perfectly understandable.”

It is now just 2/5 that Villas-Boas has left Chelsea before the start of next season, and as big as 7/4 that he is still in the Stamford Bridge hot seat at the beginning of the 2013/13 campaign.

Fernando Torres was an unused substitute in Naples on Tuesday and William Hill now offer odds of 4/9 that he is still a Chelsea player at the beginning of next season. It is 13/8 that he has moved on to pastures new.
