3/10 for Reds to floor Seagulls

away goals are likely to be at a premium

Liverpool host Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon in the FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Anfield.

Brighton have already knocked Newcastle United out of the Cup and they performed admirably against Liverpool in their 2-1 League Cup defeat at the Amex Stadium earlier this season.

With the Carling Cup Final to come seven days later, Kenny Dalglish may make changes to his starting eleven with the likes of Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy, Jamie Carragher, Martin Kelly and Maxi Rodriguez all hoping for a chance to impress. Lucas Leiva is still missing through injury.

Brighton manager Gus Poyet is expected to choose two of Craig Mackail-Smith, Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes to lead the line for the reigning League One champions. He will definitely be without long-term absentees Tommy Elphick and Gary Dicker but midfielder Matt Sparrow should return following suspension.

Seven-time winners Liverpool are joint-favourites for the Cup and will expect to progress to the Quarter Final stages but must not underestimate a Brighton side that is just four points behind third-placed Cardiff City in the Championship. However, only four sides have scored fewer than the Seagulls away from home in the second-tier this season. Only league-leaders Manchester City have a better defensive record than the Reds in the Premier League and therefore away goals are likely to be at a premium. Liverpool are 8/11 with Bet 365 to keep a clean sheet.

The prospect of two Wembley finals this season is becoming a realistic one for Liverpool and a top-four finish in the league is not yet out of the question. The next couple of weeks will be significant in determining the success of Kenny Dalglish’s first full season in his second spell as manager. Taking into account the fact that some bookmakers offer odds as short as 1/5 for the home win, William Hill’s 3/10 represents excellent value.
