9/2 for Dalglish patience to perish

Liverpool are now eight points behind Newcastle in sixth place

Bookmaker Stan James offer odds of 9/2 that Kenny Dalglish is no longer in charge of Liverpool on the final day of this season, after The Reds slipped to their fifth defeat in six Premier League games with a 2-1 loss to Wigan at Anfield on Saturday.

Dalglish guided Liverpool to the Carling Cup trophy earlier this year and they remain on course for a domestic cup double with an FA Cup semi-final against Everton or Sunderland to come. But their league form has suffered as a result and they are now eight points behind Newcastle in sixth place in the Premier League table.

“It's a good squad and I have always said we have got that,” Dalglish protested to the Liverpool Echo.

“You don't get to an FA Cup semi-final and win the Carling Cup if you aren't.

“But we've got a problem winning games in the league. Maybe there is a lot we have to educate ourselves about and maybe not have to play the lovely football we try and play. Maybe we need to change our philosophies a wee bit.”

Stan James still offer odds of 1/8 that the Liverpool legend lasts out the season, as his status within the club appears to be affording him a luxury of time that few others would be allowed.

The Anfield club are now a 7/4 chance to finish the season in the top six and are 9/4 favourites for the FA Cup.
