9/5 for rivals to draw

the Red Devils may prioritise the FA Cup ahead of the Europa League

Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday as the two sides battle it out for a place in the Fifth round of the FA Cup. The two most successful clubs in English history have a rivalry like no other and the Evra-Suarez saga has done nothing to appease the intensity.

Having booked their place in the final of the Carling Cup by drawing with Manchester City on Wednesday, Liverpool will be very keen to end United’s season in respect of domestic cup competition.

Liverpool continue to be without Uruguayan star Luis Suarez due to suspension and long-term absentee Lucas Leiva is unavailable for the rest of the season. Jay Spearing remains a doubt but there may be a place for Andy Carroll and Maxi Rodriguez having both been rested on Wednesday night.

With a crucial league game to come on Tuesday night against Stoke City, Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to rotate some of the players on the fringe of his squad. There may be places in the starting line-up for Paul Scholes and Ji Sung Park in the absence of Anderson and Nani. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are definitely missing through injury and Phil Jones looks set to miss out once more. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are therefore likely to retain their places at centre-half.

Liverpool have not been beaten at Anfield all season and they will begin the game as slight favourites at a best-priced 17/10 with Stan James. However, the Reds have drawn eight of their 13 home games this campaign. At this stage in almost any other season, Manchester United would be petrified at the thought of a cup replay further congesting their already hectic schedule. However, having been knocked out of the Carling Cup and the Champions League at a relatively early stage, the Red Devils may prioritise the FA Cup ahead of the Europa League. William Hill offer 9/5 for a draw and 6/1 for a 1-1 scoreline.
