Arsenal meet Chelsea in big weekend clash
Arsenal and Chelsea will go head-to-head in the pick of the weekend's action live on Sky Sports on Saturday evening. Both sides have made decent starts to the new season, each with three wins, a draw and a defeat to Liverpool a piece. Their starts have so far left them on 10 points each, trailing league leaders Manchester City by five points. Neither team will be hoping to drop more so early on in the season if they are to have realistic Premier League title hopes and this encounter is sure to garner plenty of betting interest.
Arsenal playing at home will go into the game as favourites, despite having a pretty wretched record against their rivals from across the capital. Arsene Wenger's struggles against Jose Mourinho managed sides are much documented, having never got the better of the now Manchester United boss in the league. However Wenger has not fared particularly well against Chelsea no matter who the Blues manager is. In his last 24 encounters with Chelsea in the Premier League has won just four times and in contrast has been on the losing side on 13 occasions. In his six of the last eight games, Chelsea have managed to get the better of the Gunners in the league and the two fixtures they failed to win were both 0-0 draws at the Emirates. Of course previous encounters count for little especially considering the Blues are now under the tutelage of Antonio Conte, who will face Wenger for the first time.
The Gunners are found at a best price of 29/20 with William Hill to win this weekend and they have been markedly better since their defeat to Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Three wins on the bounce will see them arrive in to this game with some confidence but will they be able to beat Chelsea? In contrast, the Blues will come in to this game having just lost to Liverpool. Though on a positive note the Blues have looked much improved when compared to last season and have Diego Costa back amongst the goals. The fiery striker has caused Arsenal plenty of problems in the past and was the scorer of the only goal when Chelsea emerged victorious in this fixture last season. The Spanish international striker is 17/10 with Ladbrokes to score at anytime in this one and that is surely a price to consider given they way he has started the season.
Another statistic worth considering is the fact that in the last four meetings at the Emirates, there has been just four goals. That sequence includes two 0-0 draws as well as Chelsea 1-0 victory last season. This suggests that a low scoring encounter could be worth a couple of quid and you can get under 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Betfred.
