Barnsley and Wednesday look for new managers
The bottom two clubs in the Championship Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday both sacked their managers over the weekend after disastrous starts to the season and as a result each are on the lookout for a new man at the helm.
The Reds are at the foot of the table, below their local rivals on goal difference, and handed David Flitcroft the sack after a 0-3 home defeat to Birmingham on Saturday. The favourite to take the reins at Oakwell is the former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson who is available at 4/5 with Bet Victor. Wilson is the only manager in the club’s history to take them into the top division of English football when he gained promotion to the Premier League in 1997 but just keeping them in the Championship looks a near impossible job at the moment.
The favourite to take over at Hillsborough is Stuart Pearce who is available at 7/4 with Sky Bet having left his role as England under-21s boss earlier this year. Somewhat surprisingly it is Kevin Keegan who then comes in at 5/1 with the same bookmaker and then former player Paolo Di Canio at 11/2.
Barnsley are now a best price of just 4/9 with Paddy Power to be relegated to League One whilst Wednesday are a fairly generous 6/5 with Coral to return to the third tier of English football.
