Cardiff 6/1 for top half finish

Cardiff City are fancied to be more than just one season wonders in the Premier League according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies make the club odds-on at 4/7 to avoid relegation in their first season in the division while it's just 6/1 that they manage a top half finish.

Despite the spending promises made by owner Vincent Tan only the most optimistic fans would consider backing them to win the title at 5000/1 with qualification for Europe a more realistic 'dream' bet at 16/1.

Hometown striker Craig Bellamy is also evens to notch 5 or more league goals next season.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Football Betting News: "We'll be watching Cardiff closely in the summer window. As it stands they look set to avoid relegation but a big name signing will certainly see their odds for a top half finish shorten."

Sky Bet agree with their contemporaries, making them odds-against for an instant return to the Championship at 11/8.

However, they aren’t expected to fair quite as well as neighbours Swansea in next season’s Premier League, with Sky Bet offering 7/4 that they finish above their South Wales rivals.

Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer told Football Betting News: “Cardiff have looked the best Championship side by some distance this season and, given the amount of top-flight sides who have found themselves embroiled in a relegation battle this season, we give them a good chance to staying up.

”There has also already been talk of some hefty investment this summer, with owner Vincent Tan suggesting a transfer budget of around £25m, but competing with their rivals Swansea looks a big ask given they have proved a solid mid-table side since their own promotion.”
