Chelsea favourites for crucial top-four clash
Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in a classic end of season six pointer. The result is likely decide who plays Champions League football next season and Chelsea are favourites at evens for the game and for a top 4 finish at 1/12 with Paddy Power.
Tottenham are currently fifth, only three points behind the blues, but a win would leapfrog them over rivals Arsenal and end the challenge of Everton. Spurs are 13/5 to win the game against Chelsea but are currently 17/10 to finish in the top 4, whereas as their North London neighbours are 1/4 to grab a spot in the top 4.
Chelsea have had a strong end of season run in and will be keen to put pressure on Manchester City in second place. For the visit of Tottenham they’ll be hoping that strikers Fernando Torres and Demba will be wearing their shooting boots as its odds at 4/7 on both teams will score. Ba is equal favourite with PFA Player of the Year Gareth Bale to score the first goal in the game, both at odds of 5/1. Torres comes next at 11/2 with fellow Spaniard Juan Mata at 6/1 and Spurs striker Jermain Defoe at odds of 7/1. Its likely to be goals galore in the game with a final score of 2-2 at odds of 11/1 or a Chelsea 3-1 win at odds of 12/1.
Legendary Chelsea player Frank Lampard is only one goal away from equalling the all-time blues goal scoring record of Bobby Tambling – the midfielder is odds 21/10 to score at anytime in the game. Speculation around Lampard’s future has been rife and it appears the club may have done a U-turn on offering him a new contract, however Paddy Power still have him at odds of 4/9 to move to any MLS club next or for Manchester United to snap him up at odds of 9/2. Whilst Frank’s future is uncertain one thing that isn’t is Chelsea’s next manager – Jose Mourinho is now 1/9 to be in charge at the start of next season.
A Paddy Power spokesman told Football Betting News; “Chelsea take on Spurs in a game likely to decide who will be playing in Europe’s top competition next season. Spurs have a history of choking at this stage of the season and their recent form hasn’t been that strong but Chelsea have had a hectic schedule of late and a slightly fresher Tottenham may just cause an upset.”
