Chelsea still backed for success after double loss
Chelsea have not made the ideal start to the season since the return of Jose Mourinho to the helm at Stamford Bridge but the bookmakers still believe they will come good as the Blues remain odds-on to lift a major trophy this season.
It has been a woeful week for the West-Londoners with their first Premier League defeat of the season at Everton followed by a surprise loss in the Champions League at home to Swiss side FC Basel. As a result their odds for each competition have drifted but in general the bookies still have faith in them.
Despite the 1-2 defeat against Basel the Blues are fifth favourites for Champions League success at 16/1 with Bet Victor, ahead of the likes of Juventus and PSG and significantly in front of Arsenal. They also remain second favourites for the Premier League at 11/4 with Bet365, only behind Manchester City.
This refusal to panic by the bookmakers leaves Chelsea at a best price of 11/17 with 188bet to win any major trophy this season (a market which includes the Captial One Cup). The Mourinho factor is instilling confidence in those shaping the odds but it could turn out to be a case of the old saying coming true: never go back.
