Chelsea tipped to crash out in last 16 of Champions League

Chelsea may be able to confirm their passage into the knockout phase of the Champions League tonight with victory over FC Basel in Switzerland but the bookmakers do not expect them to go much further with the first knockout round seemingly their most likely point of exit.

Jose Mourinho’s side are starting to show much more consistent good form finding themselves top of their Champions League group and third in the Premier League. Three points against Basel will further improve their situation as they will have reached the last 16 of Europe’s elite competition with a game to spare.

They are a best price of just 6/4 with 888sport to be eliminated at the first knockout stage though, despite having won the competition just 18 months ago. Sky Bet are offering 15/8 that they will be ousted in the quarter-final stage.

For Mourinho to repeat the incredible feat of Roberto Di Matteo in 2012 you can get 16/1 with Bet Victor but at this stage it would only be the most ardent Chelsea fan backing them to win the tournament.

Similarly Arsenal are not expected to progress much further than the last 16 with 888sport again offering 6/4 on them going out at that stage.
