Cisse has low interest in Wonga
Papiss Cisse has pulled out of Newcastle United’s pre-season tour after refusing to be a walking billboard for money lender Wonga and Paddy Power reckon he won’t be convinced – the Senegalese striker is 8/13 to not wear a Wonga branded Newcastle shirt this season.
Cisse has raised a religious and ethical objection to wearing Wonga with the forward offering to wear a shirt with charity branding instead. There has been precedence for this sort of situation with Freddie Kanoute having worn an unbranded Sevilla shirt back in 2006, but the club don’t seem willing to budge.
The player is now 8/11 to leave Newcastle before the end of August and the odds have dramatically shortened on his likely replacement heading to St. James Park. Darren Bent spent the majority of last season on the bench at Aston Villa and looks certain to leave the Midlands club. With Cisse’s situation worsening Bent has dropped to 1/3 to join Newcastle with the next shortest odds on the striker’s new home being 10/1 for Fulham
A Paddy Power spokesman told Football Betting News; “Wonga talks, goes the old saying. Newcastle look set to hold firm on the Cisse situation which could see the end of his time on Tyneside. If Cisse does go then Darren Bent is odds on to return to the North East.”
