City and Chelsea joint favourites for League Cup

Manchester City and Chelsea are now the joint favourites to lift this season’s Capital One Cup after Manchester United and Liverpool drew each other in the third round of the competition.

Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho’s sides are yet to take part in the tournament as they are competing in the Champions League this season but favourable draws in the third round have seen City priced at 6/1 with Sky Bet to lift the trophy whilst Chelsea are at the same price with Bet365.

Mourinho’s men face a trip to take on League One side Swindon who knocked out Championship outfit QPR in the last round whilst Pellegrini’s team face a grudge match against the team that beat them in last season’s FA Cup final Wigan Athletic.

As mentioned the pick of the third round draws is clearly United hosting Liverpool but that has stretched the odds on both teams emerging successful at the end of the tournament. The Red Devils are now 9/1 with Betfred whilst Brendan Rodgers’ side are at 14/1 with Bet Victor after their extra-time victory over Notts County on Tuesday night. Whichever of the two teams wins the match at Old Trafford will see their odds for the tournament tumble so now is the time to get your bets on.

Last season’s winners Swansea will enter at the third round stage with a trip to Birmingham but the bookies do not see the Welsh side repeating last year’s success with the best price on them retaining the trophy a huge 40/1 with Coral.
