City now odds-on favourites for Premier League
Rarely has an afternoon’s football had such a significant impact on a title race than on Sunday in the Premier League as Liverpool sank from clear favourites to significant underdogs leaving Manchester City odds-on to take the title.
Liverpool just needed to avoid defeat to Chelsea to keep the fate of the Premier League title in their own hands but they could not manage it and the 2-0 loss has shattered their hopes of lifting the trophy. They remain top of the table but with City only three points behind, with a game in hand and a better goal difference the Reds are no longer in pole position.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had reached prices as low as 1/10 to win the title before Sunday’s games but have now stretched to a best of 11/8 with Bet Victor to win the Premier League for the first time.
City were the beneficiaries of Chelsea’s win and now know that three wins from their last three games will secure them the title and they are just 4/5 with Bet365 to manage that. Ironically it is Liverpool’s local rivals Everton that have the best chance of halting City’s progress as the title favourites travel to Goodison Park on Saturday. Could the Toffees really do the Reds the biggest of favours?
Chelsea may have pulled off the unlikely victory at Anfield but they remain unlikely to claim the title as their best price of 16/1 with Sky Bet suggests. They will need to win their remaining two games and for both Liverpool and City to drop points before the end of the season.
