Clough odds-on for Blades job
Nigel Clough has become the runaway favourite to make a swift return to club management at Sheffield United after his sacking at Derby County at the end of September.
The former England international midfielder is now a best price of just 2/7 with Coral to take over at Bramall Lane following the dismissal of David Weir last week.
United were one of the pre-season favourites to gain promotion to the Championship after their run to the play-offs last season but Weir endured a terrible start to his first job in club management and the team find themselves bottom of the table after 11 games having mustered up just five points and no win since the opening day of the season.
Clough looks a certainty to take over now with his nearest competitor in the odds being Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade at 10/1 with Sky Bet although the likelihood of Orient chairman Barry Hearn letting him leave even if he wanted to is very slim.
Despite their disastrous early-season form United are expected to come good and remain a hefty price of 6/1 with Coral to be relegated.
Elsewhere in League One Gillingham have sacked Martin Allen and it is their former boss Peter Taylor who is expected to make a return to the club as he is just 1/4 with Sky Bet to re-take the reins.
