Conte exit odds tumble
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is now the favourite in the market for the next Premier League manager to leave their post market. The Italian has only been in charge for seven league games but the odds of his departure have been slashed ahead of the Blues clash with Leicester this weekend.
Several bookmakers even went as far as suspending betting on his departure at one point this week although Chelsea have dismissed the speculation as "nonsense". However this is not the first time this season that reports surrounding the former Juventus boss' future have emerged. After Chelsea's 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool in September, a number of newspapers reported that 'crisis talks' were held that night and there has also been suggestions that Conte was unhappy with the club's transfer activity this summer. Despite being the Premier League's third highest spenders, it is thought that Conte's was frustrated with the clubs failure to land his key targets such as Radja Nainggolan of Roma and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly.
At present, Conte is even odds-on to be the next Premier League manager to depart with BetVictor at odds of just 4/5. It's certainly a very bleak outlook at present although the Italian can perhaps console himself with the fact that Coral offer him as large as 3/1. In fact Coral do not even have him as the favourite in the market, with West Ham's Slaven Bilic instead the bearer of that unwanted accolade. Chelsea have so far remained defiant over the situation though as the old saying goes, 'There's no smoke without fire' and it's a story well worth keeping an eye on for any further developments.
The dramatic shift in odds certainly raises question marks over Conte's long-term future at Stamford Bridge and who knows what might happen if Chelsea suffer a negative result at home to Leicester in their next Premier League. After all, a defeat against the Foxes and former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri brought to an end Jose Mourinho's second spell at the Bridge last season...
If Conte were to become yet another managerial casualty of Roman Abramovich, who could the Chelsea owner call in next? Well Guus Hiddink will probably get his customary call to come in until the end of the season but the veteran Dutchman is out at 10/1 with Betfair to be the next Permanent Chelsea boss. Diego Simeone is the bookies' favourite for the position and is available at a best price of 4/1 with Paddy Power, but it would be difficult to envisage him leaving Atletico Madrid during the season, if at all. Other names that could be in the frame include former PSG boss Laurent Blanc, Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino, although we couldn't see that one happening.
