Coutinho odds-on for Barca switch

The odds-on Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho moving to Barcelona have been slashed amidst strong reports the Catalans have made a bid of over £70 mlliion for the Brazilian. Jurgen Klopp has been adamant that he will not be sold but nonetheless the price has shrunk in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old only signed a new contract at Anfield in January so Liverpool are under no pressure to sell. However Barcelona are keen to bring him to the Camp Nou after he scored 13 goals and laid on seven assists for his team-mates in his 31 Premier League games last season. A number of the bookies' now have Coutinho at odds-on to make the move, although you can get odds of 11/10 with Willam Hill, the biggest price currently on offer.

Barcelona are confident in their chances of securing a deal and believe that a fee of around €100 million would tempt Liverpool in to selling. Having lost out to Real Madrid in the La Liga title race last season, Barca will want to bounce back this season and signing Coutinho would certainly signal their ambition. Their desire to bring him to Spain may grow even stronger if his compatriot Neymar decides to leave the club. Neymar has been strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks with many media outlets suggesting that he could move to the French capital for a world-record £196 million deal.

If new Barca boss Ernesto Valverde were to lose Neymar to PSG, he would certainly want to bring in a high-profile replacement and Coutinho could easily fill in on the left-hand side of Barcelona's front three. Prizing Coutinho from Anfield however is not going to be straight forward as Liverpool have insisted he is not for sale and with that new contract tying the playmaker to Liverpool until 2022, Barcelona will have to cough up big money.

Though some bookmakers currently have this deal as odds-on to happen, some are similarly confident in the contrary. Skybet have odds of 8/11 that Coutinho remains put once the transfer window slams shut come the end of August. The prices suggest that this one could really go either way but the William Hill price of Coutinho leaving is the most valuable aspect of the betting market.
