Doncaster sign One Direction singer
When the transfer window is open it is often referred to as silly season in the world of football but no signing will come close in silliness to Doncaster bringing in One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson this summer.
The singer was born in Doncaster and has grown up as a Rovers fan but has never played football higher than Sunday League level so whether he is going to make much of an impact at the Championship club is still very much in question.
He has appeared for the club already in a charity match and now he has been signed on a non-contract basis there is the chance that he could turn out in red and white hoops in a competitive match.
The 21-year-old told the club’s website: "This has always been a childhood dream for me,” which is almost certainly the case but whether Rovers fans have dreamt about their side signing pop stars rather than footballers is doubtful.
The bookies don’t fancy the youngster’s chances of turning out in a Championship match for Rovers with a best price of 25/1 with Boyle Sports on him making a league appearance for the club whilst the same bookmaker are offering 200/1 on him scoring in the Championship this year.
There does seem to be a better chance of his band-mates getting in on the act as well with Coral making it 10/1 for another member of One Direction to sign for a club in the top four divisions of English football.
