Eighth place City still title favourites

In what is by far the most open battle for the Premier League in years, Manchester City still find themselves the bookies’ favourites to win the title despite being in eighth place and six points off the top of the table.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side suffered their fourth defeat of the season away to Sunderland on Sunday but despite their form being patchy at best they remain a best price of 11/4 with Bet365 to get their hands on the famous trophy again.

They will need to improve quickly and dramatically though, especially on their travels where they have lost three of their last four games.

The biggest movers in the odds at the weekend were the champions Manchester United who continued their good run of form with a third straight win against league leaders Arsenal which moved them within five points of the Gunners into fifth place. David Moyes’ men are now back in with a shout of winning the league after a shaky start and are available at a tempting 5/1 with Sky Bet.

Arsenal are still top of the pile though and they, along with fourth place Chelsea are available at 7/2 with Betfred to win the league.

It will be interesting to see how much money is coming Southampton’s way after they took their unbeaten run to eight games on Saturday to move into third place in the table. The Saints are available at 250/1 with Bet Victor for the title and on current form they have as good a chance as anyone.
