Fellaini and Baines still odds-on to join United

Despite Everton rejecting a joint bid of £28million for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines from Manchester United, the pair remain odds-on to join the Premier League champions before the end of this summer’s transfer window.

It is the second bid the Red Devils have seen rejected for the England left-back Baines whilst it is the first offer they have had turned down for the Belgian powerhouse Fellaini. However, the best price of Baines moving to Old Trafford before September remains 4/9 with Bet Victor whilst Fellaini is 2/5 with Sky Bet to make the switch.

United are certainly going to have to up their offer though with their valuations of the players not coming close to what Everton think they are worth. The bid was thought to break down to £16m for Fellaini and £12m for Baines which are nowhere near the Toffees’ valuations.

The £12m for Baines represents the same bid that was rejected earlier in the summer whilst the £16m for the Belgian is £7.5m less than the release clause in his contract which expired at the end of July.

United’s frustrating summer in the transfer market looks set to rumble on with the deals for the Everton pair proving trickier than expected and after having missed out on major targets Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas.
