Geordies favourites for relegation six-pointer

Newcastle go to Aston Villa this Tuesday evening for a relegation six-pointer, and it is the visitors that the bookmakers make favourites with Bet365 offering odds of 13/8 about Alan Pardew’s men.

Both Newcastle and Aston Villa are poised precariously above the relegation trap door in 16th and 17th position respectively, with just a point separating them ahead of this Tuesday evening’s match. A loss for either side could see them going into the weekend’s fixtures occupying a relegation spot.

But while Paul Lambert has stated that he has no money to spend in the January transfer window, Newcastle have already brought in five new faces this month. A shake-up that Pardew hopes will help rejuvenate his squad.

It's a kind of restart for us because we are so much stronger in terms of depth and quality," said Pardew.

“We have got Yohan [Cabaye] coming back, and he's like a new player.

“Debuchy has come into the building and settled quickly, Sylvain Marveaux is playing well, and then the new boys on top of that.”

Lambert is currently the 11/8 favourite with Sky Bet to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job, with Pardew at 9/1 in the same market.

Villa are now odds-on for relegation with some bookmakers, 10/11 at Stan James, but Newcastle’s forecast isn’t as bleak with the Magpies generally priced at 3/1 to be playing Championship football next season.
