Juventus still Europa League favourites despite defeat
Juventus remain the clear favourites to win this year’s Europa League despite losing the first leg of their semi-final against Benfica on Thursday evening in Portugal.
The Italian champions have been favourites to win the competition for some time but they were downed in Lisbon in an entertaining contest that finished 2-1 to the home side. Nevertheless, Juve have maintained their place at the top of the betting and are just 6/4 with Ladbrokes to lift the trophy.
The bookies clearly think that Thursday’s result was something of a one-off as the Italians are just 8/11 with Sky Bet to qualify for the final despite the deficit they will face going into the home leg.
Sevilla are now second favourites to win the competition after taking control of their semi-final tie with a 2-0 victory over Valencia in Andalucía on Thursday evening. Goals from Stephane Mbia, bizarrely on loan from Championship side QPR, and Carlos Bacca have put Sevilla in pole position to make the final and they are now just 5/2 with Bwin to be crowned Europa League champions.
