Liverpool cut in betting to sign Fernando Llorente

Rodgers has repeatedly sated that he needs more than just two recognised strikers

Odds on Liverpool signing Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente have been cut to 3/1 after Andy Carroll moved to West Ham on a season-long loan deal.

The Spanish World Cup winner has one year remaining on his contract with the Basque club, but has yet to play a league game this season since refusing to sign a new deal.

Having scored 29 goals in 53 games for his club last season the 27-year-old is hot property with Juventus, Tottenham and Arsenal also featuring towards the forefront of the betting.

Juventus remain the 2/1 co-favourites with Sky Bet, but their proposed deal for Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner suggests that they are now no longer interested in the Spaniard. Tottenham are also priced at 2/1 to sign the player this summer, but having recently secured Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent deal and safeguarded the services of Jermain Defoe with a three-year extension to his contract their priorities are thought to lie elsewhere. Luka Modric has already left and Rafael van der Vaart is on his way, so the signing of a new midfielder would surely take precedence at White Hart Lane.

That leaves Liverpool, at odds of 3/1 with Sky Bet, as the logical choice. Andy Carroll has now moved on to West Ham, freeing up a considerable amount of the club’s wage budget and Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly sated that he needs more than just two recognised strikers at the club.

“I’ve been given as much confidence as I can possibly get that we will have someone to come in,” said Rodgers.

“I’ve said all along that I have Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as front line strikers, and the young lads like Adam Morgan are getting experience, but between now and January I need more than that.

“Hopefully on Friday we can do some work and get something complete because we certainly need it. I am hoping for one or two. We need one, that’s for sure.”
