Liverpool odds-on to sign Dempsey and Sturridge
Liverpool have been cut to 4/7 in Sky Bet’s Clint Dempsey transfer betting market after Aston Villa withdrew their bid to sign the Fulham forward, while The Reds are also 4/9 to capture Daniel Sturridge on loan.
Aston Villa and Fulham agreed a fee for Dempsey earlier today but the offer was swiftly revoked after the American made it clear that Liverpool was his desired destination.
Liverpool have yet to make a formal offer for Dempsey, who has scored 50 goals in 184 league appearances for Fulham.
The Reds have, however, begun negotiations to take Sturridge to Anfield on a season-long loan. Talks between Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly began on Thursday night, after Andy Carroll completed his loan move to West Ham, and are now at an advanced stage.
The move is likely to depend on whether Chelsea can land Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle who they are looking to bring to the club in a £16million deal.
Although Sky Bet make both players odds-on favourites to join Liverpool, Tottenham are understood to also be interested in each of them. Dempsey is a 7/2 chance to move to White Hart Lane and would be seen as a direct replacement for the outgoing Rafael van der Vaart, while Spurs are also quoted at odds of 6/1 to sign Sturridge.
