Mackay Favourite for West Brom Role
West Brom are searching for a new manager for the second time in the space of a year, and Malky Mackay has emerged as the early favourite to fill the vacant position at the Hawthorns.
Pepe Mel took over from Steve Clarke at West Brom in January, and although he kept the Baggies in the Premier League, just three wins in 17 matches was not enough to keep him in his job past the end of the season.
Mackay was sacked by Cardiff City in December, a move that most as unjust. His reputation certainly remained intact after the dismissal, and a return to Premier League management has been expected ever since. The Scot is now a best price of 4/1 with Bet365 to replace Mel in the Black Country.
That best price indicates the appointment is no certainty, though, and there are a number of contenders not far behind in the betting. Leeds manager Brian McDermott has been heavily linked with the role in some circles and is a best price of 5/1 with Coral to take the job.
Behind McDermott is the recently ousted Norwich boss Chris Hughton at 7/1 with Stan James, and the soon to be sacked Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood at the same price with the same company.
