Mackay now favourite to be West Brom boss

Malky Mackay has become the clear favourite to be the next permanent manager of West Brom but the bookmakers are yet to be certain about the market with the Scot still available at odds-against.

The Baggies are now nine games without a win although they have drawn their last three matches, but they are in need of a new boss nonetheless and Mackay has become the favourite at a best price of 2/1 with Bet365. He is well ahead of the chasing pack in terms of odds but that best price suggests there is a lack of certainty from the bookies.

The other two strong contenders are Jose Luis Mendilibar and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former available at a best price of 9/2 with Paddy Power and the latter at 6/1 with Bet Victor.

Mendilibar, a Spaniard, has had an unspectacular coaching career to date having managed a number of clubs, most notably Athletic Bilbao briefly in 2005, Valladolid and most recently Osasuna.

Solskjaer would most likely be a more popular choice with the fans and has enjoyed plenty of success with current club Molde in his home country Norway.
