Martinez 2/7 for Everton job
Roberto Martinez has been heavily backed to be the next manager of Everton following confirmation of his desire to leave Wigan.
Toffees chairman Bill Kenright is believed to have asked his Latics counterpart Dave Whelan for permission to speak to the Spaniard, with relegated Wigan reluctant to stand in his way of a route back into the Premier League.
Martinez was evens to replace David Moyes at the beginning of the day, but an influx of hefty bets on Tuesday afternoon saw his price cut to 2/7, with previous second favourite for the role, Neil Lennon, now out to 16/1.
Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer told Football Betting News: “His departure from Wigan had been on the cards ever since their relegation was confirmed, and we’ve taken bets on him getting some of the biggest jobs in football in Chelsea (50/1) and Manchester City (66/1).
“However, it’s unlikely Martinez will be plying his trade in the Champions League next season, with Everton looking the most likely to give him a well-deserved chance at a club at the right end of the Premier League.”
The former Swansea boss is also thought to be on the radar of Stoke, who are in the process of interviewing for their managerial vacancy, and he’s 5/1 to take charge at
• Di Matteo favourite for Stoke post
