Martinez 9/1 for August manager of the month
Sky Bet make Roberto Martinez 9/1 to earn August’s manager of the month award after Everton confirmed the Spaniard as their new manager on Wednesday.
The former Wigan boss has signed a four-year deal at Goodison Park and is expected to be given time to stamp his authority at his new club, with the online bookmaker going 1/4 that he remains in charge on the last day of the 2013/14 Premier League season.
He’s 5/1 not to win any of his opening three league games of the campaign and 10/1 to have left the club by Christmas, while the notoriously calm Spaniard is a long shot at 12/1 to receive a Premier League touchline ban next term.
Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer told Football Betting News: “Most Everton fans seem to be giving Martinez their backing, but we believe they’ll be more vulnerable to relegation than they were under David Moyes, cutting their price for the drop from 25/1 to 22/1.
“It’s still a long shot, though, but he’s spent the large majority of his Premier League days in the bottom third of the table and we go 11/10 that he signs any player he suffered relegation with at Wigan during this summer’s transfer window.”
