Martino new 5/2 favourite for Barca post
Former Paraguay boss Gerardo Martino is Sky Bet’s new 5/2 front-runner for the Barcelona job after consistent backing this morning.
Joan Francesc Ferrer, known as Rubi, was the initial favourite to replace Tito Vilanova, who has stepped down for health reasons, but has since drifted from 3/1 to 7/2.
Martino, who had been linked with the Malaga job earlier this year and reportedly turned down the chance to take over at Santos this month, was added to the market at 33/1 but was backed into 5/2 within two hours.
Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer said: “Though Rubi remains popular with our punters and has attracted the most stakes, interest in Martino this morning has taken us by surprise.
“The sheer size of the bets coming in on him has forced us to repeatedly slash our odds before things finally began to settle at 5/2, though we’re still seeing money on him at that price.”
Former Barcelona players Luis Enrique and Michael Laudrup are each rated 8/1 to be the next manager at the Camp Nou, while Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa is a popular outsider at 10/1.
