Messi and Guardiola to re-unite?

Rumours have suggested this week that Lionel Messi could bet set for a reunion with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola. Pep and his Manchester City side witnessed Messi in all his majesty first hand as the Argentine scored a hat-trick in Barca's recent 4-0 win over City and there has been suggestions that the five-time World footballer of the year could also move to the blue side of Manchester.

Guardiola and Messi have always enjoyed a very good relationship and it was under the stewardship of the Catalonian that he really began to establish himself as a global superstar. Though he has always been happy at Barcelona, a move to link up with his former boss could perhaps be the only scenario that would tempt Messi to leave the Nou Camp. Any fee that would be involved would be astronomical and would certainly eclipse the amount cross-town rivals United paid for Paul Pogba but City are one of the few clubs that could afford such sums.

This week has seen the odds on a Messi departure shorten, with Ladbrokes offering a variety of markets on the subject matter. They currently offer odds of just 5/4 that Guardiola signs Messi at some point during his managerial career whilst the odds on Messi making the move to the Premier League at some point are just 6/4.

Aside from a move to England, it would be difficult to envisage any other transfer for the 29-year-old though perhaps one last pay-day before retirement in a lucrative league could be possible. Ladbrokes are currently offering a price of 7/1 on Messi to make the move to the MLS at some point his career whilst the price on him going to China is further out at 16/1.

If and it's a big IF, Messi does decide to leave Barcelona, the Premier League and more specifically Pep Guardiola's Barcelona would surely be top of the queue and Alex Apati of Ladbrokes News has said: "Could Messi do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke? The odds suggest we may find out sooner rather than later."

888sport are one of very few other bookies that have a market on Lionel Messi's future and they actually have Chelsea as his most likely next destination. The Blues are priced at a modest 7/2 to be Messi's employers after the summer transfer window but perhaps a greater indicator of the likelihood of this move is the fact he is as short as 1/19 with the same bookies to still be a Barcelona player then.
