Messi linked with shock Arsenal move
Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been linked with a stunning move to the Premier League to join Arsenal.
According to the Daily Star, the World footballer of the year is reportedly growing increasingly unhappy in Spain where he is currently under investigation for tax fraud.
However Messi's wage demands are allegedly set to cause a stumbling block in any potential deal, with the Argentinian apparently wanting a salary of £18 million a year after tax.
This would make his weekly wage an eye watering £600,000 per week!
The allegations of tax fraud has seen Messi and his father Jorge been requested to stand on trial. Prosecutors have alleged that Jorge avoided paying tax on some of Lionel's earnings by using offshore companies in Belize and Uruguay.
Barcelona's star man has been injured since September but is hoping to recover in time to play some part in the first El Classico of the season. Barcelona travel to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid this weekend.
Messi has a buyout-clause believed to be in excess of £175 million should Arsenal want to follow up on their reported interest. Can we really see this happening? In a word no but if you do, then 888Sport are offering odds of 70/1 on Messi moving to the Emirates next summer.
