Mourinho backed to replace Sir Alex

Jose Mourinho has been backed in from 20/1 to 6/4 to be the next Manchester United manager amid speculation that Sir Alex Ferguson is considering his position.

David Moyes remains the favourite at 4/6 after attracting some significant stakes on Saturday as betting was suspended on Mourinho heading back to Chelsea, but the ‘Special One’ is now receiving the majority of support to succeed Ferguson.

Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated manager Jurgen Klopp is the third favourite, coming in from 20/1 to 8/1 with some backing, while Ryan Giggs is 20/1 alongside Mike Phelan.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer told Football Betting News: “We saw a surge of backing for David Moyes to be the next Manchester United manager on Saturday despite no real noises surrounding Ferguson’s future but, with a national paper now reporting that an announcement could be made before the end of the week, Mourinho is now attracting the majority of the money.

“The ‘Special One’ looked destined to return to Stamford Bridge, but if the job at Old Trafford became vacant then his head could be turned.”
