Moyes and Pearson favourites for Villa
David Moyes and Nigel Pearson are the two favourites for the Aston Villa job after Remi Garde left the club by mutual consent. Nearly all of the major bookmakers have the duo as the frontrunners and Villa have reportedly already drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements.
A number of changes at boardroom level saw speculation surrounding Remi Garde's future go into overdrive before it was finally announced he had departed the club on Tuesday night. The Frenchman only took over from Tim Sherwood in November but in his 20 Premier League games in charge he won just two Premier League games with the club now looking certainties for relegation. Reports suggest that Garde had grown frustrated in January when he was unable to recruit any players during the transfer window despite Villa's struggles. This led to reported tensions behind the scenes and other rumours have circulated that the 49-year-old was not popular amongst the Villa players.
Eric Black has assumed the role as caretaker manager and with relegation now seeming inevitable, the next man in charge is likely to be tasked with winning promotion from the Championship. David Moyes has been out of work since leaving Real Sociedad in November and the Scot was linked with the job at Villa Park before Garde's appointment. Despite struggles in Spain and at Manchester United, Moyes' work at Everton should not be forgotten and the 52-year-old will be itching to get his reputation back intact. William Hill currently offer the best price on Moyes succeeding Garde at 3/1.
Nigel Pearson is the other man in the running and is another manager currently out of work after he left Leicester at the back end of last season. Pearson inspired the Foxes to a stunning end of season run that saw the club move off the bottom of the table in April before eventually finishing 14th. Leicester's astronomical rise has continued this season but it was under Pearson where their rise started at the back end of last campaign. The 52-year-old has experience in leading club's to promotion, guiding the Foxes from League One into the Championship and then the Premiership in 2014. Like Moyes, he is also found at a best price of 3/1 this time with both Bet 365 and BetVictor.
Other names to be linked with the hotseat are Mick McCarthy, Steve Bruce, Gary Monk and Gary Neville who was recently sacked by Valencia.
