Moyes backed heavily to be next Manchester Untied manager

David Moyes has been backed into odds of 4/7 to be the next Manchester United manager after Paddy Power reported a “flood of overnight bets” on the Everton boss moving to Old Trafford.

Moyes had been as big as 7/2 to be named the next United boss, but a major gamble on the Scot, fuelled by rumours in the media, has seen his odds slashed. Although other bookmakers haven’t been quite as drastic in their shortening of odds: Sky Bet still offer 10/11 about the current Toffees manager and BetVictor remain at Evens.

Although the Merseyside club have missed out on a top-four finish this season Moyes’ record at Goodison Park, with limited resources, is highly respected. Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to play some roll in determining who is successor will be, and given his admiration of Moyes it’s easy to see why the Scot is a strong frontrunner.

Jose Mourinho is the 8/1 second favourite to replace Ferguson, but the current Real Madrid boss looks set to join Chelsea in the summer, Jurgen Klopp is 20/1 but has stated that he wishes to remain in Germany and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also 20/1, but his lack of experience must be a major concern.

BetVictor spokesperson Charlie McCann told Football Betting News: "Moyes is 2/1 (from 6/4) to still be at Goodison Park on the opening day of the 2013/14 Premier League season as we have seen money for the Everton boss to be at Old Trafford next term; Everton owner Bill Kenwright holds the Scot in the highest regard but his patience must be wearing thin as he waits for his manager to make a decision as to whether he will still be in charge of the Blues next season. Roberto Martinez remains 3/1 favourite to be the next Everton manager irrespective if that is in the summer of 2013 or beyond."
