Moyes set for Newcastle?
David Moyes is being strongly linked with a return to English football as manager of Newcastle United. The 52-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Real Sociedad in November and has been strongly linked with replacing Steve McClaren.
McClaren is under increasing pressure at St James' Park following a 1-3 home defeat against Bournemouth at the weekend, reports this week have suggested his time on Tyneside may be numbered. Newcastle remain second from bottom in the Premier League and there is the increasing possibility the club may be facing up to life in the Championship next season. The club's board reportedly held a meeting earlier this week in which McClaren was not present and it is believed that his future and the direction which the club should take were the topics discussed.
There has been no further announcement on the matter although many new outlets are reporting that the club are prepared to dispense of McClaren's services with the former England manager as short as 1/7 with Paddy Power to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post.
David Moyes is the clear favourite with the bookies and is available at a best price 6/4 with 888sport. The Scot would surely relish the opportunity to get back into management and take his first role on these shores since his disastrous tenure in charge of Manchester United. Moyes is not the only name being linked with the job however with a few other former Premier League bosses also believed to be in the running. Brendan Rodgers has been out of work since being sacked by Liverpool earlier this season and can be found at odds as short as 11/4 with Boylesports although Ladbrokes have him out at 8/1.
Another former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is also believed to be in the frame having lost his job as Real Madrid manager in January. Benitez can be backed at 6/1 with BetVictor, though it would represent quite the fall from grace in moving from the Bernabeu to a relegation battle with Newcastle.
