Newcastle bring in Remy with Gomis expected to follow

Newcastle have strengthened their forward line for the coming season by bringing in QPR striker Loic Remy on a season-long loan from the Championship club.

The Magpies attempted to sign the Frenchman in the most recent January transfer window but he opted for the London club where he went on to score six goals but failed to keep them in the Premier League.

Alan Pardew’s side had been looking fairly limited up front since the departure of Demba Ba, also in the January window, with Papiss Cisse tending to lead the line alone.

Remy may well not be the only arrival to help out Cisse with goal scoring duties as Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis is expected to arrive at St James’ Park this week for a deal worth around £8m.

Despite the signing of Remy and potential arrival of Gomis it is Cisse who remains the bookie’s favourite to be the top scorer for the Toon this season. He is even odds on in a number of places but Bet Victor rate him at 6/4 to score more goals than any other for Newcastle this campaign which looks a great price.

As far as Remy’s performances go the same bookmaker rate him at 6/4 to score over 11.5 Premier League goals this season, an offer that the ever-optimistic Geordies are likely to lap up.
