Poyet new favourite for Newcastle job
Gus Poyet has been cut from 4/1 to 11/10 favourite to be the next permanent manager of Newcastle after Brighton confirmed his dismissal on Sunday evening.
The former Uruguay international, who was linked to the managerial vacancies at Everton and Wigan earlier this summer, was suspended by the Seagulls in May and failed to attend a disciplinary hearing last week.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is 6/5 to be the Premier League’s next managerial casualty, although he insists he’s not leaving the club amid rumours of a rift with chairman Mike Ashley following the controversial return of Joe Kinnear as the club’s director of football.
However, Kinnear was installed as the initial favourite to succeed Pardew, though he’s now priced at 3/1 having been leapfrogged by Poyet following a flow of money on the former Tottenham midfielder.
Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer told Football Betting News: “Poyet’s future has been in the balance since the end of the season and he’s been very popular with customers in our manager specials.
“Newcastle maintain there’s no internal problems but they’re not convincing punters just yet, with Kinnear and Lee Clark (10/1) also well backed to be their next permanent boss.”
