Soldado now second favourite for Golden Boot

Roberto Soldado has come in to a best price of 12/1 to be the Premier League’s top goal scorer this season after hitting the back of the net twice in his first two league matches for his new side Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spain international has scored a penalty in each of his first two domestic contests for Spurs and then another pair of goals in a Europa League clash with Dinamo Tbilisi to give himself the dream start to his career at White Hart Lane since arriving from Valencia earlier in the summer. This form has now brought him in to joint second favourite for the Golden Boot at a best of 12/1 with Sky Bet.

These odds put him alongside both Christian Benteke and Sergio Aguero the former available at 12s with Bwin and the latter at the same price with Bet Victor. Benteke has got off to a flyer in his quest to claim the Golden Boot for the first time with three goals in three games and despite playing for a team in Aston Villa who are unlikely to be challenging near the top of the table the bookies give him a chance of challenging for personal glory.

The clear favourite, however, is Manchester United’s Robin van Persie who kicked off in style with two goals away at Swansea in the first game of his season. His best price is 5/2 to score more than any other player this year in the Premier League with Stan James and although this is a relatively small price it is still an attractive use of a free bet given his performances in recent years.
