Special One odds-on for Chelsea return
After his Real Madrid side narrowly missed out on performing a Champions League escape worthy of Houdini it appears Jose Mourinho is firmly set to return to the scene of his own magic show.
Bookmaker Paddy Power now have the Special One at odds of 1/9 to be the next Chelsea boss – odds that have shortened from 1/4 earlier in the week.
Having got to within one goal of a remarkable turnaround against Borussia Dortmund Mourinho gave a typically bullish press conference but then proceeded to talk about how being loved by the fans and media in England make it preferable next destination – a series of quotes spectacularly missed by the hapless ITV Sport in their Champions League coverage. It seems it’ll be “when” not “if” in terms of Mourinho returning to Chelsea and the Blues are now odds of 7/2 to reclaim the Premier League title next year.
Odds on Mourinho’s replacement at Real Madrid are currently pointing towards Carlo Ancellotti as the next manager of the Los Blancos at odds of 8/15. The Italian has all but sealed the Ligue 1 title for PSG and after the club’s Champions League performance this year, plus the manager having experience of dealing with squads full of galacticos, he is favourite to get the job. Others in the mix are Spurs manager AVB at 13/2, current Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez at 20/1, and Michael Laudrup at 25/1.
A Paddy Power spokesman told Football Betting News; “The Special One has clearly had enough of tapas and is keen to get back to Stamford Bridge for some Marco Pierre White inspired cuisine. Mourinho looks set to rejoin the London club but expectations will be high and Roman won’t accept anything but trophies.”
