United new Capital One Cup favourites

Manchester United have become the bookmakers’ favourites  to win the Capital One Cup this season after knocking out their old rivals Liverpool  in the third round at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

A single Javier Hernandez goal gave the Red Devils a 1-0 win over Brendan Rodgers’ side and it duly impressed the bookies enough to make the Premier League champions a best price of 9/2 with 888sport to add this year’s League Cup to their trophy cabinet.

Given their new found position as favourites it will be interesting to see the team selection of David Moyes in the fourth round against Norwich after he made eight changes to his side between the Premier League game at the weekend against Manchester City and Wednesday night’s clash with Liverpool.

Second favourites are now City who proved their strength in depth with a resounding 5-0 win including two goals from Stevan Jovetic on only his second start for the club.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men do not have it easy in the fourth round with a trip to Newcastle, but the bookies still fancy them to do well and they are now 5/1 with Sky Bet to get their hands on the League Cup for the first time since 1976.

The tie of the fourth round sees Arsenal host Chelsea but with the two sides set to square off the odds on either lifting the trophy have significantly drifted. The Gunners are now out at 8/1 with Bet Victor whilst Chelsea are 15/2 with the same bookmaker.
