United red hot favourites for 2013/14 title

By beating Aston Villa on Monday night Manchester United have secured their 20th English League title with four games to spare, and bookmaker Paddy Power have them as favourites at 13/8 to win next seasons title.

The red devils haven’t released their grip on 1st place since November, despite losing to title rivals Manchester City in early April, and the team now have the chance to claim the highest points total in the club’s Premiership history. United’s highest ever points tally in the Premier League came in the 1993/1994 season when they claimed a staggering total of 92. With a current total of 84 and four games left bookmaker Paddy Power have them at odds of 12/1 to record their highest ever Premier League points finish.

Paddy Power also have United at odds of 8/11 to win the league by 12 points or more and with a current gap of 16 between them and City this looks increasingly likely. Striker Robin Van Persie has also all but secured the title of top scorer in the league with 24 goals so far. His closest rival Luis Suarez has been biting at his heels all season and has scored an impressive 23 goals, but his challenge now appears to be over with the FA set to prevent him from further game time until the 2013-2014 season.

Suarez’s club Liverpool will be hoping for leniency as their league hopes for next year will be based around the misbehaving striker. Paddy Power have Liverpool and Tottenham both at odds of 20/1 to take the Premier League title next season, with Arsenal at 14/1 and Chelsea at 7/2. Roberto Mancini and his Manchester City side are likely to bounce back next year and bolster their title ambitions with a plethora of big money signings in the summer. The club are currently second favourites at odds of 11/5 to take Premier League title back to the blue half of Manchester next year.

A Paddy Power spokesman told Football Betting News; “United have dominated this season and the addition of Robin Van Persie has been crucial to securing their 20th English League title. With Columbian hitman Falcao favourite to join the reds in the summer the Premiership trophy looks like it might be staying where it is for awhile, sorry Roberto.”
