United touch 25/1 before RVP steals points
Manchester United reached the dizzy heights of 25/1 during in-play betting according to Ladbrokes.
Before kick-off it was one-way traffic for coupon bankers United at 1/2 with the home side left untouched by punters at 11/2, but the roles soon reversed after Rickie Lambert's opener saw the home side crash into 2/1 and leaving United to drift out to 7/5.
However United left it well until Fergie time to strike and could have been backed at a huge 25/1 to win the match with 5 minutes and stoppage time remaining on the clock. At the same time Saints were heavily odds-on at 2/9 to collect all three points.
United have now shortened up to 2/1 (from 11/5) in the outright market with rivals City being pushed out to 13/10 (from 5/4). Unfortunately the result for Southampton leaves them as the odds-on 4/5 favourites for the drop this season.
Robin Van Persie's hat-trick secured his position as the top goalscorer favourite at 11/4. And punters who backed him to bag the most this season will be even more delighted as a free bet from the firm is on their way thanks to his hat-trick heaven.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes told Football Betting News: "United's late comeback was a nightmare result for the firm. It's RIP for both us and Southampton no thanks to RVP. Every man and his dog backed United today and Southampton's lead only made punters pile in even more during in-play betting."
