Villa linked with Zamora swoop

Aston Villa have emerged as the surprise favourites to sign QPR striker Bobby Zamora this summer although it is fair to say that it would go against Paul Lambert’s usual transfer policy.

The England international is now just 2/1 with Sky Bet to be a Villa player come the 3rd of September whilst two of his former clubs are at 6/1 with the same bookmaker in Brighton and Fulham.

As mentioned any move from Villa for the centre-forward would fly in the face of Lambert’s regular style in the transfer market as he regularly signs young players with plenty to prove rather than 32-year-olds who are certainly past their peak. There is certainly a lack of depth in the squad at Villa Park though and Zamora could be seen as cover for their star player Christian Benteke.

Zamora has been involved in three league and two Capital One Cup contests for QPR so far this season and is yet to get on the score sheet with his performances drawing some criticism from Rangers fans.
