Watford new favourites for Sky Bet Championship

Watford have been installed as the new favourites to win the Sky Bet Championship after contributing to another woeful day for the bookmakers with a 6-1 hammering of Bournemouth.

The Hornets followed up their 1-0 opening-day win at Birmingham by mauling the Cherries, prompting their title odds to be slashed to 9/2, having started the season at 10/1.

The early front-runners heaped further misery on the Football League’s new sponsors, with Sky Bet suffering heavy loses for a second-successive weekend as the favourites flourished.

Accumulators were coming in throughout the country as Scott Wiseman’s own goal handed Blackpool a late win over Barnsley, meaning eight of the 10 best-backed sides recorded victories.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: “Our support for the Football League doesn’t seem to be working both ways as the punters have enjoyed a prosperous start to the season.

”Watford’s fine form has been particularly costly as they have been the most supported side in the outrights and match markets, so we’ll be desperate for some upsets when the Premier League returns.”
