Wenger odds-on for summer departure
Arsene Wenger is now odds-on to leave Arsenal this summer with Ladbrokes as speculation mounts surrounding his future. The club's latest setback saw them lose 3-0 at Crystal Palace as their hopes of finishing in the Premier League's top four suffered a devastating blow. They are now seven points adrift of Manchester City who occupy the final Champions League spot and after the defeat at Selhurst Park, the travelling Arsenal fans were clearly audible in voicing their displeasure towards the manager and players.
There has been growing discontent amongst the Arsenal support since the turn of the year, with the Gunners winning just three times since the end of January. Two of those victories have come against non-league sides Sutton and Lincoln in the FA Cup and their last four away league games have all ended in defeats, conceding three goals in each occasion. It all makes for very bleak reading so could we be witnessing the end of Arsene Wenger spell of over 20 years in charge of Arsenal. Well his contract is up this summer and whilst reports suggest he has been offered a new two-year deal, he has yet to confirm whether or not he will extend his stay. As previously stated, Ladbrokes seem to think he will be on his way and offer odds of just 4/6 that he will not be in charge of the Gunners on the opening day of next season.
With it appearing more likely that Wenger could walk away from the Emirates, the next Arsenal manager betting market is hotting up. Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is the current favourite and would be popular choice among Arsenal fans given the fine job he has done at the helm of the Italian giants. Since taking over from Antonio Conte in 2014, he has led Juve to back-to-back Serie A titles with a third looking very likely this season. He has also won two Italian cups and reached the final of the Champions League in 2015 so he certainly has an impressive c.v. At present, he is a best price of 4/1 with BetVictor although there are some reports that suggest he may be close to signing a new contract in Turin.
Thomas Tuchel, the Borussia Dortmund boss, is the next favourite and he is priced at 9/1 for the job with Skybet. His exciting, attacking style would fit right in at the Emirates and he has managed to keep Dortmund competitive despite the loss of key players. Could he be tempted for a switch to the Premier League? He seems a good fit for Arsenal but of course this all remains up in the air until a more concrete decision is made of Wenger's future.
Elsewhere the likes of Eddie Howe, Diego Simeone and Brendan Rodgers have also been linked with the job but for now at least, Wenger remains in charge.
